Freshmen – New to Blue Orientation
New to Blue is MTSU’s multi-phase new student orientation, which guides new business students through academic planning, resources, and campus connections for a successful first year.
Accepted Summer and Fall Jones College freshmen complete both in-person and virtual components:
Once you sign up for your on-campus orientation date, a few days later, you will receive an email notifying you to access the NEW BLUE course in your D2L account. This pre-orientation course consists of units that must be completed at least four days before you come to campus. The Jones College Undergraduate Advising Center’s pre-advising workshop is a component of this course, so a pre-advising appointment is unnecessary.
Freshmen sign up to attend a full-day on-campus orientation. During the second half of the day, Jones College of Business students and their guests attend a presentation of deans and academic advisors. Students receive a personalized package (the Blue Portfolio) with their advisor assignment and a suggested course list at this check-in. After the dean’s presentation, guests will attend their session in the Student Union. At the same time, students break up into advising groups, meet their advisors, and register for classes in the BAS Computer Lab.
Jones College advisors are assigned to their new students a few days before orientation. The advisor will email MTSU Outlook within 24 hours of their on-campus orientation day.
MTSU’s True Blue Pledge states, “I am engaged in the life of this community. I am a giver and a recipient.” We believe in the value that involvement can contribute to your success, and that is why CONNECTION POINT is an integral part of your first-year experience. Attending Connection Point events will also allow you to interact with members of your class and upper-class students in attendance.
Every incoming freshman is expected to participate in at least four Connection Point activities during the first part of the fall semester. Make sure that Convocation is one of the events you plan to attend, and then pick at least three more. Don’t feel compelled to stop at four events—attend as many as you like.
Connection Point events can be found on the campus life calendar.
